Live, Learn, Grow: R-MC's Brock Commons

Randolph-Macon College will soon have a new spot for students to gather, learn and grow. Just take a look at what is happening in the heart of the campus.

Construction is in full swing on Brock Commons, a new student center. Scheduled for completion in spring 2013, Brock Commons will include a movie theater, bookstore, dining services and café, balcony, portico with tables, student mailroom, and multi-purpose rooms.

Brock Commons, an ideal venue for student engagement and interaction, will also serve as a hub for organizations and campus events. Students can grab a cup of coffee, meet friends for a movie, buy books and other R-MC memorabilia, or work together on projects—all in the same place.

Brock Commons is the latest addition to the campus in conjunction with R-MC’s Building Extraordinary capital campaign.

R-MC Offers New Major in Archaeology

R-MC Offers New Major in Archaeology

Randolph-Macon College now offers a new major in archaeology. The archaeology major brings together knowledge from many disciplines to understand our past.

“Archaeology is the study of the human past, based on material culture. Archaeologists excavate objects that are displayed as art, analyze finds using methods and technologies from the natural sciences such as chemistry and geology, read historical documents and texts in many languages, and write with anthropological perspectives,” says Classics Professor Elizabeth Fisher. “The Archaeological Studies program is interdisciplinary, so many of the courses that complete the general education requirements of the liberal arts curriculum also count on the major or minor in Archaeological Studies.

The Randolph-Macon Edge

Randolph-Macon College has launched a comprehensive new program, The Randolph-Macon Edge, within the innovative new Center for Personal and Career Development, which will be available to all R-MC students. This new initiative aims to help Randolph-Macon graduating students lead the pack when competing for jobs and top graduate schools by focusing on their personal and academic development throughout their educational experience at R-MC.

“The college’s intent, quite simply, is to help our students focus and refine their skills and abilities while they’re here – and even earlier in their college career – to give them a competitive advantage in the marketplace, whether it’s for a career or acceptance to top choice graduate schools,” says Randolph-Macon College President Robert R. Lindgren.
