Emergency Notification Sign Coming to Hanover

Emergency Notification Sign Coming to Hanover

A donation from a private company will enable the town of Ashland to receive a Flashing Alert sign that will notify citizens and travelers of emergency messages being broadcast on Hanover AM 1700.

NextEra Energy Resources, parent company of Doswell Limited Partnership, worked with Hanover Fire/EMS and the Town on the donation, which was announced this week. The donation will enable Hanover Fire/EMS to place the Flashing Alert sign on a location permitted by Town Council, potentially in the median strip near the intersection of U.S. Rt. 1 and Rt. 54.

“We’re doing this because public safety is a top priority for our company,” said Ron Rosinski, Environmental Specialist. NextEra Energy’s plant is located in the Doswell area and is part of NextEra Energy Resources fleet of clean and renewable energy facilities.

Ashland Police Chief Douglas A. Goodman, Jr. expressed his appreciation to NextEra Energy for the donation.

New weight limit on Hanover bridge

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has posted the Beaver Dam Road (Route 715) bridge over the Newfound River in the Hanover County to three tons after deteriorated beams were found in a recent structural inspection. For driver safety, VDOT has decreased the maximum vehicle weight to reduce the amount of stress on the 52 year old bridge.

The bridge can withstand normal passenger vehicle traffic; however, larger vehicles like buses and trucks will need to use an alternate route to cross the Newfound River. The bridge carries approximately 3,200 vehicles per day.
